False Start – Stepping forward before the organist starts the offertory.
Offside – Stepping forward before the pastor says “Amen.”
Encroachment – Stepping forward to hand out a bulletin to a congregant who is walking past without eye contact.
Neutral Zone Infraction – Intimidating a congregant by invading the congregant’s personal space.
Offensive Holding – Continuing to grip the offering plate after handing it to a congregant.
Defensive Holding – Holding the plate a little while in front of a congregant who clearly was not planning on giving.
Illegal Motion – Any movement coordinated with the rhythm of the offertory resembling dancing (Baptist only; not a foul in the Pentecostal league).
Pass Interference – Grabbing the plate from the second person from the end of the row, assuming the congregant is bypassing his or her spouse.
Roughing the Passer – Making direct contact with a congregant after the congregant has released the plate.
Delay of Game – Passing the plate to the wrong row, or otherwise interfering with the normal flow of the offering.
Ineligible Receiver Downfield – Usher who has not completed the usher training program or signed the usher code of conduct.
Illegal Substitution – Pressing an untrained congregant into service when short an usher.
Unnecessary Roughness – Passing the plate in a rude or brusque manner.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Spiking the plate or otherwise celebrating after a particularly good row.
